Tantalum is used as an alloy addition in superalloys, usually with nickel as the major component. Components cast from these superalloys are used in very high temperature applications where high mechanical stresses are encountered.

Tantalum brings structural integrity to components at higher temperatures. Common applications are in components for industrial gas turbines and jet engines, where tantalum helps increase fuel efficiency.
