This troubleshooting guide will help you:

  • analyze some of the problems encountered in the manufacturing of plastic molded parts,
  • determine the potential causes and
  • suggest solutions.

Problem: rapid plugging of the filtration system

Causes Solutions
  • Pigment not adapted to the application
  • Undispersed pigment
  • Contaminants present in the product
  • Pigment loading too high
  • Use of a suitable fiber grade
  • Contact masterbatch supplier, review masterbatch selection
  • Check for: possible sources of contamination, resin quality
  • Adapt the pigment concentration
  • Ensure equipment is clean

Problem: untimely filament breaking

Causes Solutions
  • Large sized contaminants lead to fiber breakage
  • Resin degradation
  • Use of an adapted fiber grade, contact masterbatch supplier, check for possible sources of contamination
  • Ensure all the components (resin, MB,…) are adapted to the process conditions

Problem: knots in the (undrawn) fibers

Causes Solutions
  • Heterophase impurities in the fiber
  • Use of an adapted fiber grade, contact masterbatch supplier, check for possible sources of contamination

Problem: color performance not achieved

Causes Solutions
  • Pigment or masterbatch dosage not adapted
  • Wrong pigment selection
  • Adapt the level of pigment in the fiber
  • Select pigment with suitable color performance
