CAB-O-SIL® CT-1206 is a medium surface area fumed silica which has been surface modified with hexamethyldisilazane. The treatment replaces some of the hydroxyls on the surface of the silica resulting in increased hydrophobicity and very different performance than untreated silica.

CT-1206 is characterized by:

  • High purity
  • Aggregate structure
  • Submicron particle size
  • Low bulk density
  • Hydrophobic surface chemistry

Application Information:

CAB-O-SIL CT-1206 is used primarily for rheology control in non-polar to medium polarity inks, coatings and adhesives.

Ink, Coating and Adhesive Systems:

In medium to high polarity inks, coatings and adhesives, CT-1206 provides low viscosity build with good sag resistance and anti-settling of pigments and fillers. This combination of properties makes CT-1206 very useful in highly filled systems such as corrosion resistant coatings. In highly filled systems, CT-1206 provides good anti-settling of the filler without significant, unwanted increase in viscosity.

In inks and coatings where surface appearance is important, CT-1206 can provide a good balance of sag resistance and flow and leveling resulting in a smooth surface.
