Abstract:
The manufacture of tablets and capsules on high speed machinery requires the granulation to exhibit optimal flow in order to produce a pharmaceutical product with uniform properties. Fine particles will, in general, exhibit cohesive or nonfree-flowing properties which can result in caking or agglomeration of particles during storage.
This may result in uneven flow as well as bridging of the granulation in the hopper of the machine.
CAB-O-SIL® M-5P fumed silica is widely used as a glidant in tablet and capsule formulations to promote the flow of granulations. The influence of CAB-O-SIL M-5P fumed silica on the angle of repose and flow rates of pharmaceutical powders is presented in this document.
