CAB-O-SIL® TS-530 is a high surface area fumed silica that has been surface-modified with hexamethyldisilazane. The treatment replaces some of the hydroxyls on the surface of the silica resulting in increased hydrophobicity and very different performance than untreated silica.

TS-340 is characterized by:

  • High purity
  • Aggregate structure
  • Submicron particle size
  • Low bulk density
  • Hydrophobic surface chemistry

Application Information:

CAB-O-SIL TS-530 is used primarily for rheology control in medium to high polarity inks, coatings and adhesives and reinforcement of silicone rubber.

Ink, Coating and Adhesive Systems:

In medium to high polarity inks, coatings and adhesives, TS-530 provides low viscosity build with good sag resistance and anti-settling of pigments and fillers. This combination of properties makes TS-530 very useful in highly filled systems such as corrosion-resistant coatings. In highly filled systems, TS-530 provides good anti-settling of the filler without significant, unwanted increase in viscosity.

In inks and coatings where surface appearance is important, TS-530 can provide a good balance of sag resistance, flow and leveling resulting in a smooth surface.

Silicone Rubber:

In HTV and liquid silicone rubber, TS-530 provides good reinforcement. As the surface is fully treated, further modification of the silica surface is not necessary to prevent crepe hardening. The compatibility of the TS-530 surface treatment with silicones enables faster incorporation and dispersion than an untreated fumed silica.
