Abstract:
UV-cured coatings are fast becoming one of the most important segments of the paints and coatings industry. Not only do they provide a faster cure and higher throughput, they also reduce the overall processing cost. In addition, by reducing the use of solvent in coatings, they have a positive impact on the environment. As a result, this market is expanding, with new applications being developed on a regular basis. Current markets include furniture, plastics, wood and PVC floors, to name a few.
To address the growing importance of this technology, Cabot has developed a new treated fumed silica particle, CAB-O-SIL® CT-9709, which is designed to provide several benefits:
- Enhanced mechanical durability, abrasion and wear resistance, in UV-cured coatings
- Minimal impact on coating viscosity and clarity
- Easy to disperse and process-friendly
