Cabot's interest and commitment to SH&E excellence started over 70 years ago with Tom Cabot and his desire to ensure we were not manufacturing a product that had negative impacts to the health of employees and customers. Our history of respect and care for those that handle and come in contact with our products, neighbors of our manufacturing operations, and the environment has grown since then.

For over 20 years, Cabot has been guided in its business decisions by a robust SH&E policy and a set of universally applicable corporate values. Those values are based on a sincere concern for the safety of all employees, contractors, and neighbors as well as a respect for natural resources and the environment. As we continue to innovate and create, our SH&E impact has been a primary consideration in all that we do. We are proud of our progress but will not be satisfied until we reach our ultimate goal of zero injuries and zero environmental incidents.

In 2004, Cabot reinvigorated our commitment to SH&E Excellence and began an important initiative we call Drive to Zero. The Drive to Zero is a mindset that permeates all that we do.

It starts with a belief that zero is possible—

    • zero injuries
    • zero spills
    • zero leaks
    • zero SH&E incidents

It is integrated into our operating culture and is a central theme in our SH&E Policy.

Corporate Standards and Guidelines

Cabot has established a series of global SH&E standards and guidelines for its worldwide operating facilities. The standards and guidelines supplement local regulations and permits, and go beyond compliance in certain cases. They establish a set of minimum expectations that must be met by all Cabot facilities. They are instrumental in helping to ensure Cabot's global network of plants operate consistently at a high level of performance.
