Cabot continues to invest in process technology and new product development. Prior to new materials or products entering the marketplace, we carefully consider their effect on the health and safety of our customers, employees, the communities that we operate in, as well as their impact on the environment. These factors play critical roles in any decision to continue development or manufacture the materials on a commercial scale.

While our products deliver wide-ranging functionality—from rheology control to color and conductivity—many of them also contribute to saving energy and protecting the environment. Below are just a few examples from our extensive product portfolio.

Cabot Nanogel® Aerogel offers a unique combination of attributes such as thermal and acoustic insulation, water resistance, large surface area, low density and stable performance. These attributes make Nanogel aerogels the perfect choice for use in daylighting applications, offering unsurpassed energy savings on heating and cooling,as well as high quality diffused light and sound reduction. In addition, our Nanogel compression packs are increasingly used as insulation for subsea oil and gas pipelines.

Cabot Specialty Fluids manufactures cesium formate brines that are used as a drilling and completion fluid for high pressure/high temperature oil and gas well operations. These products are biodegradable, solids-free, and non-corrosive and offer many safety, health and environmental advantages over competing products. In addition, because our brines are safer to handle, they are an excellent alternative to conventional drilling fluids. Our formate brines can be recycled and used in multiple drilling projects.

Cabot Elastomer Composites is a process in which natural rubber latex is mixed with a slurry of carbon black in water, resulting in a material that is far superior to other carbon black dispersions. Tests show that tires made with CEC have significant improvement in performance, offer fuel economy and improve wear resistance.
