Since October 2003, the European Commission (EC) has been developing a new EU regulatory framework for chemicals called REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals). REACH, which became effective in June 2007, applies to all existing and new chemical substances produced or imported into the EU in quantities greater than one tonne a year. Manufacturers or importers of these chemical substances will be obligated to register the substance with a central agency by submitting specified health, safety, risk and use information about the substance.

What does REACH mean to Cabot?

As we are committed to continuing to supply our European Union (EU) customers, Cabot has pre-registered all substances which are manufactured or imported into the EU in quantities greater than one tonne a year. Suppliers of raw materials are being contacted to confirm their pre-registration. Efforts are underway to develop the registration dossiers for carbon black, silica, alumina and cesium formate to ensure registration of these substances prior to their registration deadline. Cabot is implementing plans to work with the manufacturers and importers of its other substances to ensure registration prior to their deadline.

Information for customers regarding Cabot's compliance with REACH regulations is available in the Downloads area under Document Types.
