New Product Development
Cabot has a strong track record in the development of innovative products and processes. Find out about our activities in Solar, Decorative Metallic Graphics, Fuel Cells, and more.
Learn moreThe mission of Cabot's Elastomer Applications Center (CEAC) is to be a responsive and competent applications development and testing function that provides critical information and knowledge about Cabot's products and processes. We apply our expertise in rubber compounding and performance analysis, using state of art technology, to support our products and processes as well as provides solutions to our customers.
Areas of expertise include: Compounding (both ASTM masterbatch and dry mixes), Processability (testing uncured compounds), Physical Performance Testing (cured compounds), Specialized Testing (Cabot developed).
State-of-the-art internal and external mixers include BR Banbury, Prep mixers, and 2 Roll mills, offering manual or automated operation including temperature and torque profiles.
Understanding processability of compounds is critical in the rubber industry. Our lab includes cutting-edge rheometers, viscometers, extruder shrinkage and profiling capabilities. Developed test methods such as bound rubber, swell, and surface defect analysis on extruded profiles separate us from other laboratories, further enhancing techniques of analysis.
The CEAC laboratory provides a high level of physical testing relating to final product performance throughout the rubber industry. Standard testing is done using ASTM methods and new technologies: Stress strain (modulus, tensile), hardness, tear, and rebound.
Specialized testing offers a higher level of analysis: dynamic testing, heat build up, fatigue, adhesion, dispersion, compression set, density, abrasion (Grosch), cut and chip, electrical resistivity and electro-degradation.
Cabot-developed tests provide the customer with one-of-a-kind technology, which providing a deeper level of understanding of the performance properties. These tests include Cabot abrader, traction tester, and surface defect analyzer, which are utilized by both internal and external customers and include.
Cabot has a strong track record in the development of innovative products and processes. Find out about our activities in Solar, Decorative Metallic Graphics, Fuel Cells, and more.
