Decorative metallic graphics are widely used to deliver an eye-catching and luxurious quality to consumer packaging and labels. However, these excellent results come from the use of large particle size flake pigments, which can limit printing options. Conventional analog printing typically requires long printing runs of static information.
To solve this problem, Cabot has developed ultra-fine metallic pigments that deliver a highly reflective metallic effect. They can also be inkjet-printed to enable short production runs and variable information. Layers comprised of ultra-fine particles exhibit optical properties similar to metal foils with very high surface reflectivity. Advantages of these materials include:
- Highly reflective mirror-like metallic effect
- Compatibility with ink-jet printing for color integration
- Variable information
- Short or long production runs
- Potential to achieve a variety of different metallic colors
Applications for inkjet-able pigments include:
- Decorative Graphics
- Labels
- Metallic Serialization
- Brand Recognition
- Packaging
- New Product
- Promotions
- Bulk Mailing
Designing Particles for Performance
Cabot takes pride in designing particles for specific customer applications. We have created entirely new businesses as well as advanced traditional applications such as electronics, tires and other industrial products.
Metallics in Security Printing
Cabot's Security Materials are used in many security printing applications and are often incorporated into security inks that are printed onto the document. Printing methods include intaglio, offset, flexography, gravure, screen printing and inkjet.
