Abstract:

Polyethylene based masterbatch containing a slow migration slip agent designed for use in film applications. Film surfaces can stick together for example by blocking or when there is a build-up of static electricity caused by friction during manufacture.

To eliminate or reduce this problem, slip agents can be used which will allow film surfaces to slide over one another more easily. The slip additive migrates to the surface relatively slowly thus reducing potential  problems during sealing and printing.

Slip agents are generally unsaturated amides, which are incompatible with the polymer and gradually migrate to the film surface, the rate depending on the molecular weight of the slip agent used and its incompatibility with the polymer. A lubricated film surface is thereby formed giving the required slip properties.
