Abstract:

This presentation compares the effect of carbon black morphology on dispersion
in EPDM rubber. Three ASTM type carbon blacks (ASTM N550, ASTM N660 and ASTM
N774) are compared with the non-ASTM semi-reinforcing SPHERON® 5000 and
SPHERON® 6000 carbon blacks at equal hardness loadings. Photos of the extruded
tape surface appearance are included. Effect of the different carbon black
morphologies on standard rubber compound properties like viscosity, tensile
strength, etc. are also measured.
