Modern life and all its conveniences require increasing sources of power. Today, the generation, storage and distribution of energy involves diverse technologies, many involving particle technology.

In addition to the established technologies for energy generation (e.g., coal and natural gas combustion and nuclear), there are several emerging "green" technologies where Cabot offers or is developing products.

Finally, carbon blacks serve the battery and energy storage market as:

• a pigmentation, conductivity and electrochemical component of lead acid battery expansion materials,
• a source of carbon in the manufacture of graphitic carbon for electrical brushes.

 

Low-color carbon blacks are recommended for lead acid battery and carbon brush applications, where analytical and physical uniformity are required. For batteries and fuel cells, requiring chemical cleanliness, the appropriate choice is conductive or highly conductive blacks.
