Are the components of the Nanogel insulation system UV stable (will there be any discoloration over time)?

All components of the Nanogel insulation system are UV stable. Neither the properties (color stability) nor performance (insulation) of Nanogel translucent aerogel will degrade over time. The clips and polycarbonate panels are treated with UV stabilizers to prevent discoloration.
Does performance of the Profilit with Nanogel system degrade over time?

No. The Profilit channel glass and its components will not display any color change or loss in thermal performance and light transmission properties for the life of the product warranty.
How does aerogel differ from existing fumed silica products?

Aerogel is a treated silica product with a surface that looks chemically similar to common silica products. The most significant difference is the higher surface area or larger pore volume of the aerogel compared to the silica.
How is Nanogel aerogel manufactured?

Cabot Corporation’s aerogel manufacturing process is analagous to the commercial production of silica gel. The treated gel is dried preserving its porous structure and rendering the product hydrophobic through a patented process.
Is Nanogel aerogel a proven insulation material in the Daylighting market?

Yes, Nanogel has been successfully installed in a variety of daylighting systems in both North America and Europe. Installations have ranged from schools to swimming pool and office enclosures.
Is Nanogel aerogel safe?

Yes. Nanogel is a surface-treated precipitated synthetic amorphous silica gel that is chemically very similar to other silica products. It consists of 97% treated precipitated silica amorphous silica gel and 3% water. Precipitated silica is a common product used in personal care products such as lotions and cosmetics. Nanogel aerogel does not contain crystalline silica and is neither carcinogenic nor mutagenic.
Is the Profilit channel glass with Nanogel insulation considered a ‘Green Product’?

All the components of the system are safe, non-hazardous, recyclable and environmentally friendly.

Additionally, the McDonough Building Design Council (MBDC) contends Nanogel translucent aerogel is consistent with the MBDC "Cradle to Cradle" Design Philosophy.
Is the Profilit with Nanogel system resistant to moisture?

Nanogel aerogel is completely hydrophobic in nature. It is this feature that prevents any type of mold or mildew growth within the system.
What are the key attributes of the Profilit channel glass with Nanogel insulation?

Improves thermal performance Increases light transmission Improves ability to meet building codes without tradeoffs Improves condensation resistance factor· Improves acoustic performance Eliminates downdrafts from cool surfaces· Reduces building loads and HVAC costs Reduces overall energy consumption and ozone depletion.
What do architects have to say about Nanogel aerogel?

“The significant increase in R values and light transmission factors with aerogel is an immediate attention grabber”
“We are encouraged by what we have learned. Nanogel-filled panels will offer an attractive alternative for architects for certain applications.”
